This past Saturday, Laura Webb, president of Webb Insurance Group, participated in the panel for the “Global Action Summit 2019: Empower all Women and Girls.” This event was hosted by the Girl Scouts of West-Central Florida to empower local women and girls to take action globally.

This year’s event theme was “Elevating our voices toward gender equality”. Laura, along with other women in leadership roles, explored this theme through discussion and Q&A with the Girl Scouts and their families. These successful women spoke about the challenges and opportunities they have encountered during their education and career paths.

After the event, Laura said, “When you amount to any sort of success, it is important to share your experience and knowledge. Speaking with these young women was truly inspiring, they were so driven and it gave me a lot of hope for the future.” The panel also discussed the service roles they have undertaken and how their work is connected to increasing access to girl’s education.

Each summit focuses on an issue that affects women and girls around the world. This summit, located in Tampa, was in honor of the Day of the Girl that occurs annually on October 11th. The Day of the Girl is a 100% youth-led movement for gender justice and youth activism.

All USF undergraduates that attended the event earned a Global Citizens Award and the Girl Scouts received their 2020 Global Action Award. “It was a successful, encouraging, and heart-warming event for all, and I am thankful to have been a part of it,” said Laura Webb.
